So, there you are, standing at the door, with your hospital bag in hand and a strong contraction. What on earth happens now?

For many women, the thought of getting through labour and delivering a baby can bring on serious self-doubt and trepidation.

What if we told you that you could effectively “trick” your body into feeling less pain, discomfort and helplessness during labour?

Sign me up, right!?

Remembering that labour pain is a “healthy pain” can help you remain calm and work towards a safe and successful delivery. The oxytocin hormones, also known as the love hormone, and the ‘motherhood’ hormone, prolactin, are at peak levels during labour and birth.

Beta-endorphin, the body’s natural painkiller, and the fight-or-flight hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline (epinephrine and norepinephrine) also play an important part in the birth process.

How a Physio can help

We’ll teach you practical skills you can apply on a day to day basis and help you zero in on the tools that work best for YOU.

We can also explain and demonstrate use of TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machines and how they can assist you in labour.  With the right birth skills, labour and childbirth can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

We can’t to help you to experience a calm labour and peaceful birth and make the right decisions as your birth story unfolds.
