Pelvic Health
Pelvic floor dysfunction is common amongst all women (especially when you’ve been through pregnancy and childbirth) and the impact of a compromised core, ‘sneeze pee’ and constant back pain can stop you from living your best life.
We offer an expert and personalised approach to pelvic floor recovery and pelvic health treatment.
If you’re suffering from any of these conditions or symptoms, our pelvic health physios can help:
- Sensation of heaviness, bulging or discomfort in the pelvic area
- Urine leakage when you exercise, laugh, cough, sneeze, lift or get out of a chair or bed
- Frequent need to go to the toilet
- Trouble reaching the toilet in time
- Difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel
- Difficulty controlling wind
- Difficulty controlling your bowel
- Pain in the pelvic area
- Pain during sex
Our skilled physiotherapists are specially trained and qualified in women’s pelvic health. We take you a thorough pelvic floor health assessment so we can gauge where you’re at and provide a tailored treatment plan just for you.
This often includes:
- Exercises designed to strengthen your pelvic floor
- Biofeedback (electronic monitoring) and real time ultrasound
- Manual treatment of the muscles and help training the pelvic floor to function properly
- Guidance around fitness, health and wellbeing and daily activities designed to support your recovery
- Good bladder and bowel habits to maintain your pelvic floor both before and after pregnancy and beyond, as well as during menopause and later life.
Lactation and Mastitis Support
Breastfeeding should be a joyful experience. But it can also be tough on our bodies. Mastitis, engorgement, and blocked ducts can be painful and debilitating. Mastitis occurs when breast tissue gets inflamed, usually due to a blocked milk duct caused by breastfeeding. Your breasts will feel tender, hot, reddened and hard or swollen. If a blocked milk duct is not cleared, you may experience flu-like symptoms such as fever, aches and pains or it may lead to an infection.
To help you work through these challenges, our physiotherapists work closely with doctors, midwives and lactation consultants to make sure we relieve your pain and help you find joy and comfort in the breastfeeding experience. We use therapeutic ultrasound and lymphatic massage to relieve inflammatory symptoms such as redness, swelling and tenderness and give you the relief you need to breastfeed and nourish your baby.
Our professional advice and tailored treatments help you actively manage ongoing symptoms in our baby-friendly studio or via private home visits.
We prioritise all mastitis appointments to allow for early treatment and recovery.
Abdominal Separation (DRAM)
Some women’s bodies may magically fling back to normal post-partum but it’s usually more complicated than that. Many Mums will have heard of the term “mummy tummy’, that pesky protruding belly that happens postpartum (and is completely normal), the medical term is Diastasis Recti Adbominal Muscle (DRAM) which occurs when the abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy to make room for your growing baby.
Women who suffer from abdominal separation are more likely to experience back pain, hernias, pelvic girdle pain and pelvic floor dysfunction. It’s essential to try and minimise this impact during pregnancy and repair the separation muscles in the postnatal period.
One of our qualified physiotherapists with experience in pre and postnatal care will take you through a postnatal assessment (via telehealth or in-studio) and create a specifically tailored exercise program that’s right for you.
